Ralphie and the boys are back! Brother Randy, and friends Flick, Schwartz, and Scut Farkus, have returned with all the original child actors reprising their roles, as adults. They’re ready to celebrate an Indiana Christmas together again in the old neighborhood. Missing from the film is the old man, played by the late Darren McGavin, and Ralphie’s and Randy’s mom, played by Melinda Dillon, who had retired from acting at the time of the filming and passed away after the film’s release. Julie Hagerty, of Airplane movie fame, plays Ralphie’s and Randy’s mom in the new movie.
The Premise: It’s 30 years after the original, which puts the new setting in the mid-1970s. Ralphie has returned to his hometown with wife and children in tow. His dad, the old man, has passed away and his mother now occupies their childhood home and she wants Ralphie to show his family the kind of Christmas he had as a child.
Where you can view it: The sequel is streaming now on Max.

A Christmas Story Christmas is not the first sequel to A Christmas Story.
A Christmas Story 2 was released direct to video in 2012 and featured an all-new cast, including Daniel Stern (narrator of the original Wonder Years TV show) as the “old man.”
The film takes place six years after the original (1946) and has Ralphie, who is 15 now and played by Braeden Lemaster, is pining for a 1939 Mercury Eight convertible for Christmas. The movie was not based on the writings of humorist Jean Shepard, as the original was, nor did the humorist narrate the movie as he did the original.
