Willie Nelson, 92, is getting into the holiday spirit. The 92-year-old country legend has unveiled a brand-new Christmas track titled “Christmas Love Song,” and it’s poised to wrap his fans in warmth right as the winter season arrives. Released Friday, October 24 through Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings, the gentle country tune showcases Nelson’s unmistakable storytelling voice. The lyrics celebrate the magic of Christmastime, painting scenes of giving, affection, and the quiet intimacy shared between two people during the holidays.
At the heart of the song, Nelson speaks directly to a romantic partner, hinting that a meaningful gift is waiting beneath the tree. He never reveals exactly what the present is, leaving fans to imagine the heartfelt surprise he’s eager to share. Nelson recorded the track with longtime collaborator and producer Buddy Cannon. Songwriting credits go to Country Music Hall of Fame member Bill Anderson alongside Bobby Tomberlin and Marv Green. Musically, “Christmas Love Song” stays understated, giving Nelson’s voice and his famous guitar, Trigger, room to shine. The arrangement includes soft pedal steel, shimmering piano, and a classic country rhythm section courtesy of Nashville’s elite musicians. Mickey Raphael’s expressive harmonica adds a standout touch throughout.
A New Album Is Coming Soon
“Christmas Love Song” arrived ahead of Nelson’s new 11-track album, Workin’ Man: Willie Sings Merle, a tribute collection featuring his renditions of several Merle Haggard originals, which was released in early November 7. This isn’t Nelson’s first foray into holiday music. His past Christmas releases include the platinum-certified Pretty Paper (1979), inspired by Roy Orbison’s hit recording of the title track. He later shared Christmas With Willie Nelson (1994), Pancho, Lefty, and Rudolph (1995), and Hill Country Christmas (1997).
